Life story
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on 27 January 1756. A Classical composer and musician, he revealed his extraordinary gifts at an early age, and music flowed from him with a naturalness that has rarely been equalled.
In a life that lasted only thirty-five years he completed more than eight hundred works, spanning nearly every genre of his time. Symphonies, concertos, chamber music, opera and choral music all bear the mark of his hand.
He is regarded as one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music, and his works remain outstanding examples of the forms in which he wrote, admired for their grace, balance and depth of feeling.
He died on 5 December 1791 in Vienna, his life ended early yet his output immense. He was laid to rest in the St. Marx Cemetery, and his music continues to be cherished and performed throughout the world.
