Life story

Walter Elias Disney was born on 5 December 1901 in the United States. His early love of drawing and storytelling set the direction for a life that would transform popular entertainment.

An animator, film producer, voice actor and entrepreneur, Disney was a pioneer of the American animation industry and introduced several developments in the production of cartoons. As a film producer he holds the record for the most Academy Awards won by an individual, with 22 wins and 59 nominations.

He was also presented with two Golden Globe Special Achievement Awards and an Emmy Award, among many other honours. Several of his films have been included in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress and named among the finest by the American Film Institute.

Walt Disney died on 15 December 1966 in Burbank and was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The worlds of imagination he created continue to delight generations of audiences.
