From Hollywood stardom to the grace of a princess."

Life story

Grace Patricia Kelly was born on 12 November 1929 in the United States. She would become both a celebrated actress and, in time, Princess of Monaco, a life that carried her from the studios of Hollywood to the palace of a European principality.

Before her marriage she achieved stardom in several significant Hollywood films of the early to mid-1950s. Her poise and talent earned her an Academy Award and three Golden Globe Awards, and she was later ranked thirteenth on the American Film Institute's list of the twenty-five greatest female stars.

On 18 April 1956 she married Prince Rainier III and became Princess of Monaco, a role she held until her death. In her new life she set aside her film career and devoted herself to her family and to the principality that had become her home.

Grace Kelly died on 14 September 1982 in Monaco. She rests at the Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate, remembered for the elegance she brought to the screen and the dignity she carried as a princess.
