Life story
Freddie Mercury was born on 5 September 1946. A British singer and songwriter, he would go on to achieve global fame as one of the most celebrated performers in the history of rock music.
He was the lead vocalist and pianist of the rock band Queen, which he co-founded with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor. Regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and his four-octave vocal range.
Mercury defied the conventions of a rock frontman with his theatrical style, shaping the artistic direction of Queen and leaving a deep mark on live performance. His voice and presence made him one of the defining artists of his era.
Freddie Mercury died on 24 November 1991 at his home, Garden Lodge, in Kensington, London. His songs remain widely loved, and his artistry continues to be admired around the world.
